Local Director Unleashes Teaser for Hairmetal Shotgun Zombie Massacre: The Movie
Houston filmmaker Joshua Allan Vargas recently dropped the first teaser for Hairmetal Shotgun Zombie Massacre: The Movie, which probably needs no further description for you to decide whether or not you’re part of the film’s target audience.
But, what the hell, I’ll continue.
A throwback to 1980s heavy-metal horror films like Trick or Treat, Hard Rock Zombies, and Rock ‘n’ Roll Nightmare, the Texas-shot movie features cameos by Slayer’s Tom Araya, Morbid Angel’s David Vincent, and Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe. The plot centers on a hair-metal band recording an album in a creepy cabin in the middle of a cemetery (of course). Inevitably, the band’s booze-and-drug-fueled debauchery ends up unleashing demons that possess the cemetery’s dead. Then shit gets real and the flame-throwing guitar comes out.
In the first behind-the-scenes clip for Hairmetal Shotgun Zombie Massacre, Vargas (who directed and co-wrote the film with Jvstin Whitney) makes it clear that he has genuine love for both metal and horror, noting that it was often a cash-in thing back in the ’80s.
“If Rock ‘n’ Roll Nightmare got made nowadays,” he says, “it’d be like fucking Dubstep Nightmare.”
Now that’s scary.
